Happy New Year!

The New Year is upon us and there is no better time to connect exchange and ignite the marketing master within you. Facing continuous challenges, credit unions across Canada are working together, sharing solutions and strategies. MACU is at the forefront of this momentum. As Chair in 2008, I have the pleasure of reporting the events and activity of the past year to you. 2008 was a very successful year for MACU. We welcomed Randy Gossen, Paul McAfee, and Caroline Hache to the board. As we continued through the year, we said good bye to Terry Moore and at the end of the year we bid farewell to Darrel Koskewich, Liena Kano, and Brad Scott.

The farewells continued as Maria Cortese, our long-time coordinator extraordinaire, accepted a position at Westminister Savings Credit Union. Again thank you Maria for everything you have done for MACU. We enjoyed working with you and will miss you. Perhaps we will see you at MACU events as a participant. Rachel Cleland joined the team as coordinator in December. We look forward to working with you, Rachel.

Here as some of the accomplishments and highlights of the past year:

  • Refreshing the MACU Brand – Connect, Exchange, Ignite
  • Grow membership from coast to coast
  • Increase participation at conferences
  • Successful spring conference in Whistler, B.C.
  • Increase AIME Award entries
  • Introduced The Masters competition at the June conference
  • Engaged technology; enhanced the website; drove members to web
  • Reviewed governance and finance
  • Update bylaws to streamline efficiencies and add value to membership
  • Received GST number as a part of fiscal responsibility
  • Electronic voting
  • Blog – if you’re reading this you found it!
  • Fall one-day conference and learning day
  • Conference planning and communication to members earlier in the year
  • Introduce new sponsorship strategy
  • E-registration for conference
  • Move conference location east to Quebec City June 1-3, 2009

This is my final message as your Chair; it was a privilege I truly enjoyed. I had the opportunity to meet and work with amazing people. Thank you Board members; volunteers are a precious commodity I truly value. Again, thank you.
